Giving Thanks

This year was a doozy. I moved twice, changed jobs multiple times, learned some hard lessons, but at the same time there are so many things to be thankful for.

Last year I wrote about how thankful I was for the life lessons I was receiving at the time. This year is very different. This year is all about the people. New friends who are like sisters, the relationships born out of adversity and strengthened by trust and love. The camaraderie of friends during difficult situations. It's about the random early morning diner breakfasts and the last minute plans to dress up for a house party. Grabbing dinner with girlfriends and the ones who held your hand when you thought life was too tough. I wouldn't have been able to make it through this year so far if it weren't for my incredible and loving support group. So THANK YOU, from the bottom of my heart.

Turning Over A New Leaf

The autumn equinox, or Mabon, came and went with out me being able to celebrate it. Unfortunately I was sick in bed. But it did leave me some time for thinking.

Mabon in pagan community is known as the holiday of the harvest. Literally and figuratively it's a time where you reap what you sow. There are many other associations and writings about the holiday and how it should be celebrated, but I usually love to give myself time to reflect, plan my next goals for the year, and make delicious food.

What I came to realize while I was laying sick in bed, is that i'm constantly planting and sowing. I'm so worried about the next harvest that I don't take the time to enjoy what i'm doing here and now. Instead, I'm letting my hard work die as soon as I harvest it and I don't get the chance to enjoy it. I'm already moving onto the next thing without giving myself a chance to rest. I think life was trying to tell me a little something this week when I was getting ill and the brake pedal of my car fell off.

I need to slow down and enjoy the work i'm doing. I need to choose what to focus on and really give that one (or two things because I can't help myself) thing all my focus and dedication. My creative process has fallen to the wayside, and that's what I need to be focusing on to make me happiest.

One little project i've had in mind that I want to start bringing into fruition is lifestyle blogging. I want to discover and develop a magical, fairy lifestyle that works for the modern busy lady. That way there's love, ritual and beauty in everything that is done. Creativity is being used. Connection to your inner self and earth is constantly being made. Those are my own personal goals I want to achieve and I want to be able to document it somehow.

So step number one for me, is making time to doodle and paint once a week. Completely for myself. Nothing freelance related. Nothing work related. I'm going to start with that one little thing and slowly work my way up as I can let go jobs and other not so fun and magical responsibilities.

Do you guys feel the same way? Are there changes in your life that you are wanting to be made but having a hard time finding the time to make a change? Let me know in the comments below!

Wedding Wings

I had the utmost honor and pleasure to make a custom pair of fairy wings for a very dear friend of mine. We used to play faeries and mermaids at each others houses, go to Shakespeare camp together and get in to all sorts of mischief. When her bridesmaids asked her why she wasn't going to wear fairy wings at the wedding (because if you know Maddy, it was a must)  and all Maddy did was smile innocently.

She came to me in February asking me to design a pair of wings for her wedding in late May, but the wings were a secret to everyone except for the photographer!

I started off with a drawing to nail out what she wanted out of the wings and then finally came to this sketch.

Once the design was finalized I was ready to start constructing and painting, and thank goodness I had a lot of time. I wanted to make sure these wings were absolutely perfect.

The final product came out wonderful. They were just the right amount of sparkly, and I made sure that Maddy's fairy wings would be able to survive all the dancing that was going to happen at the reception. Maddy sent me photos when she finally got her package in the mail.

Maddy and Mathew's ceremony was absolutely gorgeous.

Congrats to the newly weds, and I wish nothing but peace and love for you guys!

Ostara is all about renewal and rebirth. The sun and moon are in perfect balance with the promise of the days doing longer every day. The name Ostara even comes from the germanic word for East, the direction of the rising sun.

I spent the afternoon going for a little meditation hike. This year has barely started but there has already been so many positive changes from where I was at this time last year. There is so much to be thankful for, and all the hard work I put into myself and my work seems to be starting to blossom. I picked some flowers along the way which ended up making a home in my room, making it smell like the California hillsides. I absolutely love it when all the wildflowers are in bloom.

I hope you all had a lovely day!
